A model that requires little introduction, the E Type epitomises a golden era of sports cars and is revered as being one of the motor beautiful automotive creations of all time. Photographing one from an unflattering angle is said to be impossible. This particular car was chosen as the subject of a meticulous rebuild in the early 1980’s by renowned restorers XK Engineering. The significance of this is that there would have been a much wider selection of candidate cars to choose from at that time, and superior quality parts (mainly ex-factory) were still available. Replacement leather in the right grade was still on offer (as trimmed when new) which is impossible to recreate with today’s thin, stretchy hides. Visually the car has classic early features, but later brakes and synchromesh gearbox enhances the drive. Since this car was rebuilt, it has been cherished and when we first viewed it in a collection ten years ago, the first impression was that it looked, smelt and felt like a 3.8 E Type did in the 1960’s. We acquired the car 7 years ago and commissioned the ex- Coombes ‘60’s Jaguar afficionado Ken Bell to examine the vehicle and refresh whatever was necessary for us to sell it on with confidence to one of our regular clients. That documentation now forms part of the car’s history file and provenance. Since then, the car has been used carefully with regular maintenance, and in preparation of returning to the market, it has been sent to the long standing E Type experts M&C Wilkinson for re-appraisal, renewal of perishables and a large service has just been completed. Finished in Opalescent Dark Blue with Blue-Grey hide, this immaculate example comes with reassurance that some of the most respected E Type names in the business have attended to its preservation and needs over the years
